Governance

A message from our Chair of Governors:

I would like to introduce myself as the chair of the governing body at Dukesgate Academy. I joined the governing body in the autumn term of 2022, but have previous experience of having been on a number of governing bodies of both primary and secondary schools in Salford and Trafford.

I am currently the Principal at Marlborough Road Academy and feel that my knowledge of the way schools work and the ethos and ambitions of United Learning Trust put me in a good position to be able to act as a critical friend to Dukesgate Academy.

It is my mission to support the leadership of the school, so that the pupils of Dukesgate Academy get the very best possible education and start in life and grow into happy, fulfilled young people and adults, who can contribute positively to their community.

I look forward to meeting you in person at some of the many events run by the school.

Dukesgate Academy is a part of United Learning whose Trustees hold the ultimate responsibility for the governance of each United Learning school.

The Department for Education’s governance handbook 2020 identifies the essentials of effective governance as follows:

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
Holding the executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

United Learning’s Trustees delegate certain key roles and responsibilities to the school’s Local Governing Body (LGB) and these are set out clearly in our Scheme of Delegation which can be seen on the United Learning website.
