Our Community Hub

Here to support families and the wider community.

Welcome to our Community Hub.  The hub consists of a dedicated community room, the use of a sports hall and outdoor areas, including a multi games area and large sports field.  Although the space is part of Dukesgate Academy, it aims to serve both the school and wider community and to reach people of all ages.

We know that communities are strongest together and this forms a central part of our hub ethos.  We are committed to building positive relationships with the community the hub serves and to enabling community members to act on things that they care about.

Our aims are to:

  • Help our local community lead healthier, happier and better-connected lives.
  • Reduce isolation among our parents/carers and the wider community.
  • Offer a safe and supportive environment, in which local residents can thrive.
  • Promote change driven by both the school and the  community.
  • Provide  opportunities  for community members to get involved, participate, volunteer, learn and to develop their skills and talents.
  • to improve social community cohesion.

The Dukesgate Community Hub is run by our Community Development Officer: Judith Richens who can be contacted on the following e mail address: communityhub@dukesgate.co.uk

Volunteer Opportunties

We are currently looking for volunteers to help run a weekly roller disco  session on a Wednesday  from 4.30-5.30pm.  An enhanced DBS check will be required.  Volunteers will be required to help the young people put on and take off  their skates and safety equipment and to supervise the skating to keep everyone safe.

We are also looking for volunteers to supervise the food pantry on a Tuesday from 3-3.30pm .  An enhanced DBS check will be required.  Volunteers will be required to set up and pack away the pop up space, set out the stock and supervise the food give away.

Have Your say

Community voice is very important to us.  We regularly sample the views and opinions of the community to be sure that we focus on the things that matter to you.  Look out for the monthly community newsletter and follow the school on social media to see what we are currently working on, events that are coming up or things you can get involved in.

Holiday Fun !

The holiday club run by Quality Sports over the summer break was really popular.  Almost 100 children (96) attended over the 4 weeks and enjoyed playing with their friends, making new ones , taking part in a whole range of sports and dance opportunities, as well as working with a chef to make pizza, fruit kebabs and muffins.  They loved the time on the bouncy castle and the air track too and learning to ride bikes with the cycling proficiency team.

A big thank you to our partner Tesco for providing free fruit and veg to support families over the holiday period.  This was very helpful indeed.
