Dukesgate has always offered a good sports’ curriculum and this has been strategically improved since becoming an academy. We aim to ensure all of our pupils develop healthy lifestyles and have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of high quality sporting activities and competitions. Some of the events our children have taken part in include: Salford Dance Explosion; Farnworth Inter-schools’ Cricket Tournament; a rugby competition at Sale Sharks; inter-schools’ swimming gala, athletics and gymnastics competitions.
Regardless of sporting ability, children at Dukesgate have the chance to access excellent sporting facilities, tuition and develop healthy lifestyles from an early age. Currently, each class receives at least two hours of PE tuition per week. The excellent newly developed outdoor learning areas in Early Years and Key Stage 1 ensure that children continue to be physically active and challenged whilst enjoying their learning.
In addition to class tuition, we are able to offer a wide range of free extra-curricular sports clubs. These are both inclusive and open clubs which means that children may join regardless of their ability. The emphasis is on enjoyment and participation and they are taught the necessary skills in order to join in. This year clubs have included: football, girls’ football, netball, basketball, multi-sports and gymnastics. All children are encouraged to attend at least one sporting club per week. Details of competitions are on our newsletter.
